We invite all Phoenix-based UCWAZ members to join us for a movie night in Phoenix on Friday, March 27th at 7pm. This is an opportunity to meet fellow union members and bring friends who want to join

Flyer advertising the Salt of the Earth screening on Friday, March 27th.

We will be screening Salt of the Earth (1954), a film about workers protesting unsafe working conditions and unequal pay at New Mexico's Empire Zinc mine. A member of Tucson's Salt of the Earth labor college will join us to give an introduction to the film and to help place it in our modern context.

"Released in 1954, Salt of the Earth was the first — and remains the only — film to be officially blacklisted in the United States. At the height of McCarthyism, when accusations of communism could ruin careers overnight, this independent production became a lightning rod. It was deemed “communist propaganda” not because of any covert messages, but because it was anti-racist, pro-union, and — perhaps most threatening to the establishment — feminist." - Latina Media Company on Salt of the Earth

As this is a union member's house, you must RSVP before receiving the address. After completing this form, the address will appear on the confirmation page. You will be emailed a reminder a week before the event.
