Our Statements
The below statements are officially endorsed by our union, the United Campus Workers of Arizona (UCWAZ), CWA Local 7065.
Statement on the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election
Now that the election is behind us, we must remember the most important thing of all: labor organizing. Right now, we must continue to build power in numbers by organizing our fellow workers to make our movement stronger. Our ultimate goal is a free and equitable higher education for all, and fair and equitable compensation for those who make it run - let’s do what we can to continue fighting in Arizona and across the country.

Statement on ABOR's Appointment of 23rd UA President
Management whiplash continues. More money and resources at the top. But campus workers continue to build our base and remain ready for another academic year serving our community and the state of Arizona. We will continue to center the opinions and needs of staff, students, and faculty to ensure our university gets the stable, reliable, long-term leaders we deserve. An answer to the leadership crisis is simple. It’s time to recognize and bargain with your workers.

Statement on the 9/22 Homicide at the University of Arizona
We at the United Campus Workers of Arizona (CWA Local 7065) mourn the loss within our community after a local community college student was shot and killed by an assailant on our campus. To be most effective in appropriately addressing gun violence on campus, we urge UA administration to implement a plan of action in the coming months.

United Campus Workers AZ, CWA Local 7065, once again strongly condemns the violent repression of student-led protests, this time from the University of Arizona and Northern Arizona University. The UA and NAU administrations chose to harm students and community members engaged in peaceful protest by authorizing the militarized use of riot gear, chemical weapons, and rubber bullets from campus police, county sheriffs, and state troopers. We stand, once again, resolutely in full support of the students, staff, alumni, and community protestors, many of whom are members of our union, who were arrested, assaulted, or otherwise harmed by the administrations’ choices. We continue to demand that all charges be dropped immediately.

United Campus Workers AZ, CWA Local 7065, strongly condemns Arizona State University’s violent repression of the student-led encampment protesting the ongoing genocide in Palestine. We stand in full support of the 72 student, staff, alumni, and community protestors, many of whom are members of our union, who were arrested and the countless more who were harmed by the University administration’s and ASU Police Department’s decision to call in Tempe Police, County Sheriff's Office, and Arizona State Troopers to violently dismantle the encampment. We demand that all charges be dropped immediately.

UCWAZ commends President Crow and ABOR for condemning Turning Point USA (TPUSA) as a result of repeated harassment and a violent attack against members of the university community, which are in direct violation of the ABOR code of conduct. But the administration must now take concrete action to ban TPUSA from campus and unregister its university organization.
UCWAZ also supports the broader demands of ASU’s LGBTQ+ community as they work to build a safe, welcoming, and inclusive campus. While we affirm the right to free speech at ASU, when a campus organization threatens that right with an assault on the physical safety and well-being of an ASU community member, that organization forfeits its right to a place at the table. These actions must be taken immediately to ensure the safety and well-being of students, staff, and faculty on ASU campus, especially the members of our LGBTQ+ community, and to ensure, as President Crow maintains, that “ASU will do all that we can to end the bullying and intimidation” and “reduce threats against the members of the ASU community.”

Statement in Support of Abortion Rights
Our official statement on the Arizona Supreme Court's April 9th near-total abortion ban ruling:
"Recently, as a result of a 4-2 ruling, the state of Arizona effectively joined 16 other US states where abortion is virtually outlawed. The United Campus Workers of Arizona, UCWAZ, vehemently oppose this decision.
UCWAZ affirms the right to an abortion and stands in solidarity with those disproportionately affected by this ruling, including women, working class, racial, and sexual and gender minorities. The decision reinforces a patriarchal structure in which bodily autonomy is granted only to those in positions of power, furthering the control our jobs extend over our private lives.
The labor movement has long been a space of liberation, and we remain committed to fighting for a future in which reproductive justice is afforded to all.
Reproductive care is healthcare. Reproductive rights are workers’ rights."
In solidarity, Your Fellow Workers at UCWAZ
