Maricopa County Community Colleges District (MCCCD)

The newly formed Maricopa Community Colleges chapter of the United Campus Workers of Arizona (UCWAZ) CWA Local 7065 needs your help to improve our colleges for everyone. We are a wall-to-wall union, meaning we unite all employees (Staff, Faculty, and Student Workers) to build power independent of administration.

Since our founding in 2020, UCWAZ has won material benefits for members across Arizona, including wage increases, job protections, and shared power in governance structures.

Do you go to work or school at MCCCD? Join your union!

You are eligible to join your campus labor union if you are the following job classifications:

  • Undergraduate student
  • Student worker
  • Part-time staff
  • Full-time staff
  • Adjunct faculty
  • Career-track or contingent faculty
  • Tenure-track faculty
  • Tenured faculty

Wall-to-wall means a union for ALL. Together, we are stronger.

Key Goals for Maricopa

  • Economic Security: We advocate for Cost-of-Living Adjustments that actually match inflation, restored salary steps for staff, and the protection of retirement benefits.
  • A Voice That Binds: While current associations can only "meet and confer," we are fighting for true Collective Bargaining Rights, making our agreements legally binding rather than just recommendations.
  • Protection & Independence: We provide a voice separate from the administration to fight for Academic Freedom, protect healthcare benefits, and establish job protections regarding AI.
  • Restoring DEIA & Community: We are filling the gap left by administrative changes to re-establish affinity groups and support caucuses for Disability, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and other marginalized communities.

And so much more! Because we’re directly democratic, you decide what we’re fighting for.

Help us build a better campus for all!

Join the Movement!

Organizing isn’t all-or-nothing. Your involvement is up to you, from paying dues to joining a committee.

The UCWAZ Difference

United Campus Workers of Arizona
Employee Associations
Directly Democratic: Workers have direct voice in shaping the direction of our unionRepresentative: Workers can suggest direction, vote on association measures, but don’t always set the agenda of the assocation
Independentspace from college administration: workers can speak freely and fight for our vision for higher education; limited conflict of interestsConnected to college administration: conflict of interests can emerge as administration goals and worker goals may diverge
Political: we are part of a national labor union, Communication Workers of America, that can fight back against federal policy, and at the local legislative level. We can shape local elections for state Congress, city council, propose legislation,Campus/District Specific: Tend to focus on campus specific issues and policy, not as much space to push back in local and federal elections and legislation

But can we have a union and an association? YES!
